Background
Everest Base Camp (EBC) is a classic trek which takes you to the base camp of the world’s highest peak- the Mt. Everest (8848m). As such, the EBC Heli Trek is a combination of the EBC trek and an entertaining Heli ride to Kathmandu. The trip offers spectacular views of the mountains, glaciers, and lush landscapes in the Sagarmatha National Park. Likewise, trekkers can also enjoy the Sherpa lifestyle, culture, and customs on the trip. EBC Heli Trek is perfect for a cultural, architectural, Himalayan, and natural exploration of the region around the Mt. Everest.

EBC Heli Trek is 11 days long and starts as you land in Kathmandu. You spend the second day touring Kathmandu and visiting Swayambhunath Stupa, Boudhanath, Pashupatinath Temple, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. These destinations are esteemed cultural heritages in Kathmandu and are even enlisted as world heritage sites by UNESCO. From Kathmandu, we fly to Lukla, stop at Phakding and head to Namche Bazaar the next day. En route, we officially enter the Sagarmatha National Park. Namche has much to offer to tourists and you can spend an acclimatization day exploring the village, visiting monasteries, and hiking to nearby villages. Then, we move towards Tengboche enjoying the view of Ama Dablam (6856m) and visit the oldest monastery in Everest Region- the Tengboche Monastery. From here, we slowly pass the tree line and reach Dingboche. Here, we spend another day acclimatizing before resuming our trek and arriving at Lobuche. Finally, we reach Everest Base Camp the next day passing Gorakshep on the way. Enjoy the view of surrounding Himalayas from the base camp as well as an aerial view of the spectacular Himalayas on the way back.

  • Day 3: Fly to Lukla| 2840m | 40-minute flight and Trek to Phakding | 2610m |3-4 hours

We take an early morning flight to Lukla. On the flight, you can see the Himalayas spread far across the horizon. From Lukla, we trek to Phakding. The trek is fairly easy walking gradually downhill along with lush forests, Mani-stones, ethnic villages, and Gumbas. We pass through Ghat village to reach Phakding which sits at the eastern bank of the Dudh Koshi River. Overnight in Phakding.

  • Day 4: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar| 3440m | 5-6hours

Walking along the banks of Dudh Koshi River, we start our trek to Namche. We encounter suspension bridges along the way along with colorful prayer flags which decorate the trekking trails. We enter Sagarmatha National Park as we cross Jorsalle village. Hereon, we trek through dense rhododendron and magnolia forests to make the uphill climb to Namche. Overnight in Namche.

  • Day 5: Acclimatization in Namche Bazaar

This is the day we spend in Namche for acclimatization. Namche is the biggest village in the Everest region and has charming Sherpa vibes spread across the village. It has all the modern facilities including internet cafes, restaurants, and hotels. So, you can spend today exploring Namche, hiking to nearby villages, visiting some monasteries and learning about the Sherpa culture, lifestyle, and religion. Overnight in Namche.

  • Day 6: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche | 3860m | 5-6 hours

The trail from Namche to Tengboche is mostly easy despite going uphill. We start early walking mainly through pine and rhododendron forest and crossing Dudh Koshi River. Stupas and Chortens can be frequently seen on the trail. Once you reach Tengboche, you can visit the biggest monastery of the region, Tengboche Monastery. The monastery offers a stunning view of the Mt. Ama Dablam (6856m) among many other mountains. Overnight in Tengboche.

  • Day 7: Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche | 4410 m | 5-6 hours

On this particular day, the landscape changes noticeably and we walk above the tree line. The trail takes us to terrain mostly rocky with snowcapped mountains and glaciers. We pass through small villages and suspension bridges stretched out in harmony with prayer flags. Passing Orsho and Somare, the trek heads to Dingboche. Overnight in Dingboche.

  • Day 8: Acclimatization in Dingboche

You spend another day acclimatizing to the high altitude and Himalayan atmosphere. Dingboche is a remote village which is crowded by tourists since it is an acclimatization spot after crossing the 4000m mark. From here, the trails to the Everest Base Camp and Island Peak (6189m) separate. You can explore the culture and landscape while we rest here. The Nangkar Tshang Monastery is one of the ideal destinations to visit on this day. Overnight in Dingboche.

  • Day 9: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche | 4910 m | 2-4 hours

We start our trek to Lobuche in the morning. As we start, the first part till Thukla village is mostly flat. You can also visit the climber’s memorial park here. The trek crosses the Thokla Pass (4830m) and descends to the lush pasturelands. For the latter part, the trek continues along the Khumbu Glacier. Overnight in Lobuche.

  • Day 10: Trek Lobuche to Gorakshep |5140m | Visit Everest Base Camp| 5364 m | 6-7 hours| & Fly to Kathmandu | 40-45mins

On this day, the trail is rocky with loose rocks, steep climbs, and some icy pathways. We pass through the village of Gorakshep to reach the base camp. Though the distance is shorter, the trek might feel difficult because of thinning air. Being in the Everest Base Camp is a surreal feeling. Standing in the base of the tallest mountain in the world and witnessing other tall mountains is an experience of a lifetime. Some of the mountains you see are Nuptse (7861m) and Pumo Ri (7165m) alongside the Khumbu Glacier. Afterward, a helicopter ride takes you back to Kathmandu giving you mesmerizing aerial view of the mighty Himalayas. Overnight in Kathmandu.
