Background
Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586m) is situated at the border between Nepal, India, and Tibet. The Kanchenjunga Expedition to the top of the third highest mountain in the world is one of the most difficult Himalayan ventures in the entire world. Along with cultural interactions with Kirant communities, the expedition is an introduction to mountaineering of the highest caliber. Moreover, the trip stretches through the surreal natural diversity in the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area.
The expedition to Kanchenjunga takes 54 days to complete and the journey starts with you arriving at Kathmandu. After expedition preparation, you will leave Kathmandu and fly to Bhadrapur from where you drive to Khandeba via Philim. From Khandeba, you begin trekking towards the Base Camp. En route, you pass by Yamphudin, Tortong, Tseram, Ramche and many other beautiful rustic villages where you can enjoy the local culture of people from different ethnic groups like Sherpas and Limbu. From Ramche, you trek to Glacier Camp first before ascending further to Kanchenjunga Base Camp. From the base camp, you take 30 days to scale the Kanchenjunga (8586m). During these 30 days, you will make multiple camps and climb up and come down many times before finally summiting Kanchenjunga Mountain. Once you reach the summit, you will get an amazing panoramic view of the Kanchenjunga Range including mountains in Makalu and Everest ranges as well. Next, you begin your travel back to Kathmandu, and head to Khandeba from base camp making stops at Ramche, Tortong, and Yamphudin. From Khandeba, you will first drive to Bhadrapur and then catch a flight back to Kathmandu. You will spend a day in Kathmandu resting before returning home. The best time for this expedition is during spring (March-May) and autumn (September – November) seasons. This trip is recommended for people who have prior experience of scaling mountains and are in good health and top physical condition.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu & Transfer to the Hotel (1,300m)
The first day of the trip starts with your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. Our company representative warmly welcomes you at the airport and then accompanies you to your designated hotel.

Day 2: Rest in Kathmandu: Expedition briefing and preparation
This day, you meet your guide and staff that will accompany you in this expedition. The guide briefs you about the trip and gives you a list of necessary items. If you don’t have them, you can buy or rent from Thamel. After the briefing, you can explore the cultural landmarks like Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swayambhunath or relax at a café.

Day 3: Fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur and drive to Phidim
After breakfast, you catch a flight to Bhadrapur from Kathmandu. En route, you get an aerial view of Everest, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga Ranges. After having lunch at Bhadrapur, you will drive to Phidim. The drive is about 2 hours long and the final route takes us through the muddy roadway. Overnight at Phidim.

Day 4: Drive from Phidim to Khandeba by jeep
After breakfast, you head to Khandeba by jeep. This is the last stretch of the expedition that you will drive to. On the way, you can enjoy beautiful sceneries of the eastern hills of Nepal. The road might be bumpy as you leave the plains of Terai and head north swerving along with the lush hilly landscapes. Overnight stay at Khandeba.

Day 5: Trek from Khandeba to Khewang (1,740 m): Camping
From Khandeba, you start to trek. Today, you enjoy the beautiful view of the eastern mountain landscape while trekking uphill to Khewang. The trek continues through several Rai and Limbu communities. Likewise, most of the trail is also covered with rhododendron and pine forests. When you reach Khewang, you set up a tent for an overnight stay.

Day 6: Trek from Khebang to Yamphudin (2,080 m): Camping |4-5 hrs.
After breakfast, you head to Yamphudin. The trail is relatively easy as the landscape is flat. You can enjoy the beautiful view of rivers and hilly ridges as the trek heads north to Yamphudin. Yamphudin is a big village located between Omje Khola and Kabeli Khola. Even though there are few lodges here, you set up camp for overnight stay.

Day 7: Acclimatization in Yamphudin (rest day): Camping
This day is separated for you to acclimatize to the higher altitudes. You can explore the unique landscape of Yamphudin. You can explore the village, which is inhabited by different ethnic groups like Sherpa, Rai, and Limbu. You can hike around the village and enjoy the beautiful view of the rivers and ridges. Overnight stay in Yamphudin.

Day 8: Trek from Yamphudin to Tortong (2,995 m): Camping | 5-6 hrs.
The trail today goes along the banks of Omja Khola. En route, you see scenic meadows and a beautiful view of Omja Valley. Crossing the Omja Valley, you slowly ascend to Deurali Danda. From the top of the hill, you get a nice view of Mt. Januu (7711m). From there, you descend to Simbuwa Khola and reach Tortong after crossing a bridge. Overnight stay in Tortong.

Day 9: Trek from Tortong to Tseram (3,870 m): Camping | 5-6 hrs.
Today, you trek along with the upstream of Simbuwa Khola. Along the way, you see the massive Yalung Glacier, Mt. Kabru, and Mt. Rathong. You also pass a shrine among dense forest and continue on the trail that heads northeast. After you cross the forested area, you come across a riverbed. A short climb from there takes you to Tseram. Overnight stay in Tseram.

Day 10: Trek from Tseram to Ramche (4,580 m): Camping | 5-6 hrs.
After packing up, you begin walking from Tseram and climb up to Yalung Bara. Beyond this point, the vegetation starts to thin. As you get close to Yalung Glacier, you see the moraines and rough landscape of that area. En route, you get a close-up view of Rathong, Kabru, and Kokthang. After crossing the lake at Lapsang, you reach Ramche. Overnight stay in Ramche.

Day 11- Day 12: Acclimatization in Ramche (rest day): Camping
As the trek explores high altitude trails, it is important to make yourself familiar with the Himalayan atmosphere. So, you acclimatize to the altitude and rest at Ramche before heading for the base camp. You can explore the surrounding areas or hike up to nearby villages. You can also do some climbing practice with the help of your guide.

Day 13: Trek from Ramche to Glacier Camp (4,890 m): Camping |5-6 hrs.
Today, the trail ascends and goes along Yalung Glacier and its stream of moraines. En route, you can relish the stunning view of Kanchenjunga (8586m) and its neighboring peaks. You are within Kanchenjunga Conservation Area so, you might spot blue sheep if you are lucky. After resting at Oktang, you head to Glacier Camp for an overnight stay.

Day 14: Trek from Glacier Camp to Kanchenjunga Base Camp (5,475 m): Camping | 5-6 hrs.
Leaving Glacier Camp, you walk uphill to Kanchenjunga Base Camp. En route, you will see an amazing view of the mountain range and the rough, snowy terrain of the region. The climb is steep but you will know that you have reached the base camp once you see colorful tents among layers of snow. You set up camp for an overnight stay.

Day 15 to Day 45: Climbing Period [Base Camp to Kanchenjunga Summit (8,586m) and back to Base Camp]
To reach the summit and descend back to the Base Camp, 30 days is separated. By precisely following your guide and their instructions, you get used to the higher altitudes and tough terrains. You set up camps at various altitudes from 6,000m to 7,500m. There is a lot of climbing up and descending. You will be using your mountaineering skills, climbing equipment, ropes, and oxygen tank to make to the top of Kanchenjunga. Once you reach the summit, there is a small plateau. You can rest here with the magnificent view of Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (8,414m), Baruntse (7312m), Kanchenjunga West (8,505m), Kanchenjunga South (8,494m), Kanbachen (7,903m), Yalung Kung (8,420 m) and other neighboring peaks. You will head back to Base Camp again making multiple stops and camps along the way once you have scaled the peak.

Day 46: Trek from Base Camp to Ramche (4,580 m): Camping | 6-7 hrs.
After one long month scaling the summit and returning to the base camp, you will leave base camp and descend to Ramche. The route goes downhill, with some steep descend along the way. Passing Oktang, the trek continues along off-beat trails with the views of Oktang Glacier. Set up camp for an overnight stay.

Day 47: Trek from Ramche to Tortong (2,995 m): Camping | 6-7 hrs.
You continue retracing your steps on the trail and descend to Tortong. You will be walking along the banks of Simbuwa Khola through a dense forest on the way and crossing the village of Tseram. The trail feels relatively easier as you descend to lower altitude. Set up camp at Tortong for overnight stay.

Day 48: Trek from Tortong to Yamphudin (2,080 m): Camping| 5-6 hrs.
Today, you descend to Yamphudin walking along the bank of Omja Khola. You can enjoy the scenic view of the surrounding hills and mountain range on the horizon while you are descending. You have come well below 2500 meters so, you will be breathing easier and feel more comfortable in Yamphudin. Set up camp at Yamphudin for an overnight stay.

Day 49: Trek from Yamphudin to Khebang (1,740 m): Camping| 4-5 hrs.
The trek today leads to Khebang. During this trail, you see flat land after a long time. Since you are nearing the end of this expedition, enjoy the last view of the mountain range to the fullest. The trail continues south along hilly ridges and river basins and settles at Khebang for the day. Set up camp at Khebang for an overnight stay.

Day 50: Trek from Khebang to Khandeba| 5-6 hrs.
Today is the last day of the trek. Enjoy the scenic view of the Kanchenjunga region along the route. You are tracing back the route you took to ascend. The human settlements start to thicken and you can observe the lifestyle of the local Rai and Sherpa communities as you make your way to Khandeba. At Khandeba you stay overnight at a hotel.

Day 51: Drive from Khandeba to Bhadrapur & Transfer to the Hotel: via Phidim
The trekking days are over. After a relaxing night at Khandeba, you catch an early ride back to Phidim. After having lunch there, you head to Bhadrapur driving along the remote highways. The drive offers a surreal scenic display of the lush hilly landscape as well. At Bhadrapur, you can explore the nearby market. Overnight stay in Bhadrapur.

Day 52: Fly from Bhadrapur to Kathmandu & Transfer to the Hotel
After breakfast, you will catch the first flight back to Kathmandu from the domestic airport of Bhadrapur. Once you land in Kathmandu, from the airport, our company representative will pick you up from the airport and accompany you to your hotel. You have the rest of the day to do with it as you please. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 53: Leisure day in Kathmandu City
After a long expedition, you deserve a well-earned day for relaxation and exploration. This day you can explore the gullies, lifestyles, and culture of Kathmandu Valley and visit famous landmarks like Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Patan Durbar Square, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square among others. You can also visit Kirtipur or Khokana. You can also opt for a soothing day at the spa, café, or hotel. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 54: Transfer to the International Airport for final departure
Your long trip to the Himalayas and back has come to an end. Before you depart for home, we would like to hear your feedback on the expedition and our services. A company representative will escort you to the international airport in time. We wish you a safe flight back home and see you again!
