Background

Get a chance to scale the exciting seven-thousand peak – Langtang Lirung (7227m) on the Langtang Lirung Expedition. A part of greater Himalayas in the scenic Langtang region, the peak lies in between the Sun Koshi valley on the east and the Trishuli Gandaki Valley on the west. It is located near the border between Nepal and Tibet Autonomous Region of China. Enjoy trekking through the pristine Langtang National Park and climb one of the exciting peaks in Nepal. 

The 32-day Langtang Lirung Expedition commences upon your arrival in Kathmandu city. A few days will be spent preparing the climb permits and other necessary expedition documents. Afterward, you’ll embark on a scenic 7-hour drive northwest of Kathmandu to Sybrubensi village. You’ll gradually trek through the traditional Tamang villages Langtang en route to Kyanjin Gompa. The Kyanjin Gompa is one of the biggest in the region and you will visit the monastery before making your way towards Langtang Lirung Base Camp. You will spend about a few days acclimatizing in the base camp. A technical ascent, you’ll be required to use ice-axe and crampons. The fixed ropes set by Sherpas will help you get to the summit. From the summit, you can relish the beautiful panorama of mountains including Langshisha Ri (6427m), Langtang II (6,581m), Kinshung Peak (6,781m), and Shishapangma (8013m). Afterward, you’ll retrace your path and head back to Sybrubensi via Langtang village. The expedition concedes upon your return to Kathmandu. You can undertake Langtang Expedition during two different seasons namely spring (Mar-Jun) and autumn (Sep-Nov). This is a technical ascent and so, trekkers need be in peak physical condition and also be comfortable using mountaineering equipment for the Langtang Lirung Expedition.

  • Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m)

    You’ll be welcomed by one of your company representatives at Tribhuvan International Airport at Kathmandu. From the airport, you’ll be escorted to your hotel. You will meet your climb guide and discuss the trip in detail. Afterward, you can feel free to explore the local areas. There are no other scheduled activities today so, you can explore the local areas on your own.

  • Day 2-3: Documentation and Climbing Preparation

    A couple of days will be spent in Kathmandu acclimatizing and preparing necessary documents for the expedition including climb permit, garbage disposal, national park permit, etc. Your Sherpa guide will assess your gear and equipment and advice you to purchase new items if needed. You’ll spend a few hours preparing for the climb as well in of the local climbing centers in Kathmandu. If time permits, you can choose to explore Kathmandu city and head to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley. 

  • Day 4: Drive to Sybrubensi (1503m) (7-8 hours)

    After an early breakfast, you’ll head on a scenic road journey northwest of Kathmandu to Sybrubensi. It is a small village located in the upper hills of Rasuwa district that serves as the gateway to the Langtang National Park. Spanning almost 120km from Kathmandu to Syabru, you will drive through the serpentine road along the Trishuli and Bhote Koshi rivers.

  • Day 5: Trek to Lama Hotel (2410m) (5-6 hours)

    The trek commences with a gradual ascent north through the dense vegetation of birch and rhododendron. You’ll advance along the forested trail to reach Lama Hotel. Unlike its name, Lama Hotel is a local Tamang village en route. It lies almost 10.9 km from Sybrubensi. You’ll follow the trail along the Langtang Khola and pass Rimche village to reach Lama Hotel.

     

  • Day 6: Trek to Langtang Village (3330m) (5-6 hours)

    Leaving Lama Hotel, you’ll gradually trek through the dense bamboo forests to reach Ghodatabela. A local Tamang village, Ghodatabela gives you a great view of the Langtang Lirung (7227m), Tserko Ri (4984m), and Shishapangma (8013m). You’ll cross Chyamki and Thangshyap village afterward and continue trekking uphill to reach Langtang village. It is located on the lap of Langtang Lirung where you can enjoy the views of the Langtang mountain range from there. 

  • Day 7: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3830m) (4-5 hours)

    You’ll trek further uphill northwest from Langtang village into the wild mountainous valley. Kyanjin is a small Tibetan village lying east from the Langtang Village. Kyanjin is home to the oldest Buddhist monastery in the region and is considered the holiest Gumba as well. It also has a popular cheese factory. You’ll explore the small Gumba and visit the cheese factory. Meanwhile, the beautiful sight of Gangchempo (6388m) and Langtang Lirung (7227m) adorn the skyline.

  • Day 8: Trek to Langtang Lirung Base Camp (4900m) (3-4 hours)

    After breakfast, you will leave Kyanjin Gompa and follow the snowy trail that descends to Langtang Lirung Glacier. Soon, you will follow the trail leading upwards to a campsite, also known as Langtang Lirung Base Camp. You will set up camp with the help of the Sherpa guide and staff for the night. The next 19 days will be spent acclimatizing and climbing through the rough snowy terrain to the summit of Langtang Lirung (7227m).

  • Day 9-11: Acclimatization and Climbing Preparation

    You will spend a few days at the Langtang Lirung Base Camp acclimatizing and preparing for the climb. You will make multiple small ascents over the snow to prepare for the summit over three days. Your Sherpa guide will provide you with necessary instructions and guidelines on using ice-axe, crampons, ropes, and other equipment. By the end of the three days, our main is to ensure that you are comfortable climbing using your equipment and prevent altitude sickness. 

  • Day 12-27: Climbing period

    You will spend a total of 15 days practicing, finding routes, and slowly making your way to Langtang Lirung. Few more days will follow the regular practice of climb-training. The staff will climb early to set-up the ropes on the way to the top. Our Sherpa crew will perform all the menial work, from carrying and setting up additional camps, preparing healthy and hygienic meals, to finding appropriate and safe climbing routes. You will overcome several technical sections and camp at different sites. Weather condition becomes an important factor. Your guide will assess the weather before deciding to ascend upward. Once at the top of the summit, you’ll be rewarded with a majestic view of Langtang Himalayan Range, Pemthang Karpo (6830m), Shishapangma (8013m) in Tibet along with Manaslu (8163m) and Gaurishankar Himal (7134m). After spending short but quality time, you’ll retrace your path and head back to the base camp.

  • Day 28: Trek to Langtang Village (3307m) (6-7 hours)

    After heading down from the mountain, you’ll rest for a night at the base camp before heading down to Langtang village via Kyanjin Gompa. You’ll retrace your path and trek through the snowy terrain and boulders to Langtang village. A scenic view of Langtang Lirung (7227m) greets you throughout the trail. Trekking down to Langtang village will bring you below the altitude of 3500m which should be easier for your lungs. 

     

  • Day 29: Trek to Lama Hotel (2470m) (5-6 hours)

    Leaving Langtang village, you’ll head down through the same route and cross Mundu and Ghodatabela to reach Lama Hotel. While going down, you can catch the beautiful sight of the surrounding peaks including Langtang Lirung (7227m) and Langtang Ri (6547m). You’ll cross the vast expanse of Bamboo forest and cross Mani walls en route.

  • Day 30: Trek to Sybrubensi (7-8 hours)

    Today is the end of the trek. You’ll leave Lama Hotel and head downhill through lushly decorated Bamboo and rhododendron forests back to Sybrubensi. The final descent may last almost 5 hours and goes through small Tamang settlements along the trail. Once you arrive in Sybrubensi, your long trip in the Himalayas will come to an end. 

     

  • Day 31: Drive back to Kathmandu.

    After breakfast, you’ll catch a private vehicle back to Kathmandu and drive through the same serpentine road for almost 6-7 hours to reach your destination. Once in Kathmandu, you’ll be escorted directly to your hotel. In the evening, you can do some souvenirs shopping in Thamel. 

  • Day 32: Final departure

    Today, we’ll be dropped off at Tribhuvan International by our company representative Airport so you can catch your scheduled flight back home. Your will leave approximately 2 hours early so to avoid any delays. You can share your trip experience with us on the way. Then, we bid you farewell!
