Background
The famous Khotang Halesi Pilgrimage Tour takes you to the eastern hilly region in Nepal, Khotang district. Halesi lies at a hilltop between two holy rivers of Dudh Koshi and Sun Koshi and is a popular destination for pilgrims. According to mythology, Halesi is a place where Lord Shiva resided to hide from the demon Bhasmasur. Similarly, Buddhists people believe that their great Guru Rinpoche attained salvation while meditating here. As such, Halesi Mahadev and its vicinity hold special regards in the culture and beliefs of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. This historic, religious and spiritual journey is a worthy short trip in Nepal.
The 6-day Khotang Halesi Tour starts with your arrival in Kathmandu. You will be escorted to your hotel and head for the tour the next day. On the second day, our well-experienced tour guide will accompany you for a sightseeing tour to Boudhanath, Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath Stupa, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. These sites have great historical, cultural and religious significance to the people of Nepal. You could experience the local Nepali cuisine and enjoy shopping in the vibrant market of Kathmandu. On the next day, we take a ride from Kathmandu to Halesi, explore Halesi for a day and get back the next day. Halesi Mahadev is one of the prominent Hindu pilgrimage sites and the temple is also equally revered by Buddhist adherents. Halesi offers a spiritual gift to its visitors but is not limited to just that. Distant snowcapped mountains are visible from here as well and the rhododendron forests and wildlife make this place a perfect short tour. The ride is easy and passes through beautiful hills and forests following some rivers alongside.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
Our company representative will greet you Tribhuvan International Airport at Kathmandu on your arrival and drive you to your hotel. You can rest for the rest of the day and enjoy the city on your own as there is nothing planned for the day.

Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing
Today, you will visit some of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu. The places you will visit are Swayambhunath (also known as Monkey Temple), Boudhanath, Pashupatinath Temple, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Both Swayambhunath and Boudhanath are Buddhist stupas while Pashupatinath is dedicated to the Hindu god Lord Shiva. The durbar square shows the architecture of Malla dynasty and the heavy influence they had on determining our art and culture.

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Halesi | 7-8 Hours
After breakfast, we take a private vehicle to reach Halesi where the popular Halesi Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is situated. We ride through B.P. Highway passing places like Khurkot and Nepalthok on the way. We pass through Okhaldhunga district to arrive at Halesi, Khotang district. The ride is comfortable and the view of rivers, hills, forests, and occasional Himalayan scenery will make your journey exciting. Overnight in Halesi.

Day 4: Halesi Mandir visit and exploration
On this day, we hike up to the hill to witness the sunrise, visit the historic cave, and explore the local area. We also explore the Halesi Mahadev Temple and observe religious rituals. It is also believed that making a wish to Halesi Mahadev gets fulfilled. Since the temple is significant to Hindu, Buddhist, and Kirant religions, there are a large number of devotees around the temple premises. Afterward, you can hike around the area or explore the Halesi Bazaar. Overnight in Halesi.

Day 5: Drive from Halesi to Kathmandu
Leaving Halesi, we return the same way back. This time we make the trip to Kathmandu enjoying the morning view of the eastern hills and the forest. We pass through beautiful small villages, and high towns and cities. Once you arrive in Kathmandu, you are free to do as you please. You can do some souvenir shopping or choose to rest for the remainder of the day. Overnight in Kathmandu.
