Background 

Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201m) is the sixth tallest mountain in the world and is considered as the easiest peak to climb among the 8 thousand. It is located at the west of Everest and can be climbed from both Nepal and Tibet sides. Travelers are enchanted by the sense of camaraderie and thrill when they mount the Cho Oyu Mountain. This 42 days’ journey is not only a challenge to your courage and vigor but an open challenge to your willpower as well. Battle the snows, battle the frosty winds and finally do the impossible that conquers Mount Cho Oyu.

 

This whole expedition takes 42 days to complete. Your trip starts at Kathmandu where you prepare necessary documents to enter Tiber alongside sightseeing the UNESCO world heritage sites of the valley like Swayambhunath Temple, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square and so on. After the preparation is completed, you fly to Lhasa where you acclimatize and discover the amazing culture and cuisines. At Lhasa, you will visit the mighty Potala Palace. From there onwards, you drive to Shigatse, which is a big city in Tibet. Visit the Tashilunpo monastery and Palcho monastery during your time here. You move to Xegar by climbing the Ghyachu la pass. Visit the Xegar Dzong and after a day of acclimatizing, move ahead to the Chinese base camp. Learn the necessary climbing tricks and from here, you will ascend to Cho Oyu Base Camp. In this package, 34 days is separated for reaching the mountain summit but if the mountainous weather is favorable, you can complete the climb within one month, which is a rare case. There are three camps while summiting the Cho Oyu Peak which includes Camp 1, Camp 2, and Camp 3. After reaching the summit, you descend to Chinese base camp and ultimately enter Nepal via Rasuwa. The journey ends in Kathmandu. The best time for this expedition is spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) seasons.

  • Day 1: International arrival in Kathmandu (1350m)

    The first day you shall arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport, located in Kathmandu. There, our company’s representatives will welcome you and guide you to your hotel. After refreshing you join them for welcome dinner. Overnight in Kathmandu.

  • Day 2-3: Document Preparation

    Since you have to climb from the Tibetan side, you need to have all the necessary documents prepared. Thus, 2 days are separated for it. Meanwhile, you join the sightseeing tour to visit the famous landmarks of Kathmandu like the Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath Temple and Pashupatinath Temple. The next day you visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square and then after lunch explore Patan Durbar Square. Overnight in Kathmandu.

  • Day 4: Fly to Lhasa (1hrs 30mins) (3700m)

    After breakfast, you prepare your luggage and head to the airport to fly to Lhasa. The flight lasts about one and a half hours. Once you reach there, you are taken to your hotel. After you have your lunch, you meet the guides and team who will accompany you on this expedition. Then, you can stroll around the city and do souvenir shopping. Overnight in Lhasa.

  • Day 5: Acclimatization day and discovering Lhasa

    Today, you acclimatize to the high altitudes. So, a sightseeing tour is prepared. The first stop is the grand Potala Palace, which used to be the home of Dalai Lama and is now a museum. Then you visit Jokhang Temple, Drepung Monastery and Ramoche Temple. You have the local cuisine for lunch and visit the Monument to the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet and end the tour at Tibet Museum. Overnight in Lhasa.

  • Day 6: Drive to Shigatse (3900m) (5 hours)

    Today, you drive to Shigatse, the second-largest city of Tibet after breakfast. Upon reaching there, you transfer to your hotel, refresh and have your lunch. Then you explore the city and some of its landmarks. The first stop is Tashilunpo Monastery, which was founded by the first Dalai Lama. Then you visit the Palcho Monastery, Sakya Monastery and Summer Palace of the Panchen Lamas. Overnight in Shigatse.

  • Day 7: Drive to Xegar (4000m) (4 hours)

    Today you drive to Xegar and hit the road after breakfast. En route, you cross two passes, Tropu La Pass (4,948m) and Ghyachu La Pass (5,200m), and see amazing views of the Tibetan landscape. Then, you arrive at your hotel where you refresh and have your lunch. After resting for a while, you visit the famous places of this region i.e. the ruins of Xegar Dzong and Xegar Choedhey Monastery. Overnight in Xegar.

  • Day 8: Acclimatization day

    Since you’ll be climbing to altitudes of 8,000m, you will acclimatize today. You explore the old markets and learn about the history of the trade of rice, grains, and wools between Tibet and Nepal, as this town was one of the major places for trade hundreds of years ago. There are also small monasteries in this area where you can discover the lifestyles of the monks living there. Overnight in Xegar.

  • Day 9: Arrival at Chinese Base Camp (5150m)

    After breakfast, you leave Xegar and head towards the Chinese Base Camp. You can reach there via vehicle. En route, you can enjoy the barren sloping landscapes and go down south where the road ends at the base of Mt. Cho Oyu. Once you reach there, you have your lunch and start to prepare yourself to go to Cho Oyu Base Camp. Overnight in Chinese Base Camp.  

     

  • Day 10-13: Trek to Cho Oyu Base Camp (5600m)

    It takes 3-4 days to reach to Cho Oyu Base Camp. Yaks are provided to carry your items, as the trail can get difficult and tiring. You walk through the valley and see majestic views of the Cho Oyu and neighboring peaks. You set up camps at 5,200m and 5,400m. Once you arrive at the base camp, you can see splendid views of Everest. Then you prepare equipment for climbing. Overnight in Cho Oyu base camp.

  • Day 14-38: Climbing the north-west face of Cho-Oyu (8201m)

    To reach the summit, it takes 34 days. The first part, you walk along the Gyabrag Glacier and reach the Camp I at 6,400m. The route to Camp II (7,000m) is steep and requires a lot of effort. Camp III is about 4-5 hours away from the second camp and from there you can see mountains of the Nepal side. By the end of one month, you will successfully climb Cho Oyu and return to Camp I.

  • Day 39: Return trek to the road head

    After the successfully climbing Cho Oyu, you head back to Chinese Base Camp after packing up equipment and cleaning. From there, you trek back to Xegar where you stay overnight. You can relax your tired body or you can choose to explore the town.

  • Day 40: Drive into Nepal

    After the tiring trek, you head back to Kathmandu via road. You head to Lhasa from Xegar first and have your lunch there. Then you head to Kathmandu. It takes about 14-15 hours to reach the capital city. You stop at Gyirong town for an overnight stay, as it will be nightfall by the time you reach there. From this town, you see beautiful views of Everest. Overnight in Gyirong.

  • Day 41: Arrival in Kathmandu

    After breakfast, the guide prepares necessary documents to show at the Nepal-Sino border and from there the distance to Kathmandu is 130 km. Then you enter Nepal via Rasuwa and the road gets bumpy. You can see the picturesque vies of the mountain landscape of Nepal. You arrive at Kathmandu after the tiring trip so you can relax at the hotel or can opt to do some souvenir shopping as well. Overnight in Kathmandu.

  • Day 42: Final Departure 

    Today is the last day of your trip. Make sure that you have all your personal belongings with you. As per your flight schedule, our representatives will make sure that you will reach the airport on time. We would also like to hear your feedback on the expedition.
