Bhairav Kunda Trek takes you to the religious lake situated at the high altitude of 4240 m. It is one of the famous trekking destinations which lies near the Kathmandu valley. On this trek, travelers can enjoy the amazing view of snowcapped mountains in Langtang, Jugal, and Dorje Lakpa ranges along with the esteemed Bhairav Kunda Lake itself. You will also get the opportunity to study the lifestyle, culture, and tradition of the Tamang ethnic group. 

The Bhairav Kunda Trek starts from Kathmandu and your journey begins with a drive to Jalbire from Kathmandu. From Jalbire, you will start your trek towards Chanaute exploring the villages along the trail. The next day, you’ll head towards Khani Gaon and explore the village on the following day. After a rest day in Khani Gaon, you will continue your journey to Bhairav Kunda for the next 3 days. Firstly, you will trek to Forest Camp from Khani Gaon and then to Pati on the next day. Pati is the last stop before Bhairav Kunda. Upon reaching Bhairav Kunda, you pay a visit to the holy lake and explore the lake vicinity. The lake is situated beautifully beneath the mountain ranges of Langtang and Jugal Himal. Enjoy the view and wake early the next day for a sunrise view from the viewpoint over Jugal, Dorje Lakpa, Langtang, and Rolwaling Himalayan Range. Afterward, you’ll start your trek back from Bhairav Kunda to Sherpa Gaon. From Sherpa Gaon, you’ll head towards Larcha. Half hour away from Larcha, you will visit a natural hot spring where you can loosen up and relax. The next day will be a return drive to Kathmandu making the end of the trek. The best season for this tour is autumn and Spring, as you can explore the beautiful rhododendron forest and get good views of the snowcapped mountains.

  • Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu airport and transfer to hotel. (1300m)

    Today, you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport at Kathmandu and will be greeted by one of our company representatives. Then, you will head to your hotel and prepare for your tour that starts the next day. You will meet with your guide and discuss the trek. In the evening, you are free to do as you please as there are no scheduled activities. Overnight in Kathmandu.

  • Day 02: Drive from Kathmandu to Jalbire (1040m). Drive 5/6 hours

    Leaving Kathmandu, you will drive to Jalbire to start your journey towards Bhairav Kunda. Jalbire is a village rich in Newari cultures and lifestyle in Sindhupalchowk district. You can visit the temple of Hindu God ‘Vishnu’ which is situated on the banks of the Balephi River once you reach Jalbire. In the evening, tents will be set up and the night is spent at Jalbire.

  • Day 03: Trek from Jalbire to Chanaute (1350m). 4-5 hours (Overnight at tented camp)

    Today, you start your trek and head out of Jalbire to Chanaute, passing several Tamang villages on the way. You will walk through a waterfall while heading towards Chanaute. The walk is easy with very gradual uphill trail and offers plenty of mesmerizing scenery on the way. It is a small village consisting of people of Chhetri and Brahmin communities. Overnight stay in tented camp.

  • Day 04: Trek from Chanaute to Khani Gaon (2000m). 6 hours 

    After having breakfast, you will head to your next stop, Khani Gaon, a Newar village. The trail is relatively challenging as the trail is an uphill walk. You pass through some villages and streams on the way to Khani Gaon. The trek crosses Ghunga and Pungtang villages before reaching Paku. Khani Gaon lies to the east of Paku and gradually ascends all the way. Overnight in Khani Gaon.

  • Day 05: Rest day for exploration around Khani Gaon Village. 

    You take a break from walking and explore the beautiful village of Khani Gaon. You meet up with the local people, try their foods and learn about their cultures and traditions. You can also visit Dalle Pokhari near the village. Likewise, Domong Pokhari which lies to the south of the village is worth a visit as well. Overnight in Khani Gaon.

     

  • Day 06: Trek from Khani Gaon to Forest Camp (3150m). 6-7 hours 

    Leaving Khani Gaon, you resume your trek and head to Forest Camp. The trail goes through rhododendron forest going through some steep uphill route. This is a relatively longer trek and might be challenging. The forests are home to a diverse array of flora and fauna and offer the chance to spot wildlife like bears and leopards. The final part of the trek continues along the ridges and hilly slopes of the Ogache Danda. Overnight in Forest Camp.

  • Day 07: Trek from Forest Camp to Pati (3765m). 5 hours

    This day’s trek is said to be the toughest one as you have to walk uphill through the steep trail for straight around 4 hours. You will walk past rhododendron forest and pine trees on the way. After around 5 hours of walking, you will reach Pati and rest watching the views of the Langtang and Jugal mountain ranges in the skyline. Overnight in Pati.

  • Day 08: Trek from Pati to Bhairav Kunda (4250m). 3 hours

    Finally, you’ll head towards Bhairav Kunda which is the ultimate destination on the trek. The trails at the beginning of the day will gradually ascend followed by a couple of hours of the trek along a leveled path. The lake is a pilgrimage site for Hindus as Bhairav is the destructive form of Lord Shiva. Many pilgrims come here in July/August and take bath in the holy lake. You can also take a bath enjoying the view of Langtang, Jugal Himal, and Rowling Range. Overnight at tented camp.

  • Day 09: Trek from Bhairav Kunda to Sherpa Gaon (2500m). 6-7 hours 

    Leaving Bhairav Kunda, you trek downhill to Sherpa Gaon. You start your trek before sunrise so that you can have a good view of sunrise from the viewpoints around the lake. After enjoying the sunrise view over the snowcapped mountains, you’ll head towards Sherpa Gaon from where the return trek starts. The trek to Sherpa Gaon goes through rhododendron forest on a steep downhill trail. Overnight in Sherpa Gaon.

  • Day 10: Trek from Sherpa Gaon to Larcha (1500m) and visit Hot spring (Kodari Tatopani). 4-5 hours 

    This will be the final trek day in the Bhairav Kunda Trek. You head to Larcha village from Sherpa Gaon. The route goes alongside Bhote Koshi River and goes through a steep descent as well. From Larcha, you can walk an extra half hour where you can enjoy the natural hot-spring of Kodari Tatopani. Overnight at tented camp in Larcha.

  • Day 11: Drive back to Kathmandu (1300m). 5/6 hours 

    After completion of the trek, you will have a scenic drive back to Kathmandu. The drive takes you through the serpentine highway of Nepal passing field, villages, and highway towns. With the last glimpse of rural hilly Nepal, you arrive in Kathmandu. Once you arrive in Kathmandu, you are free to explore as you like and do some souvenir shopping in Thamel. Overnight in Kathmandu. 

  • Day 12 Transfer to airport for your final departure from Nepal.

    Your trek has come to an end. Today, after breakfast, our company representative will drop you to Tribhuvan International Airport two hours ahead of time to avoid any delay. We bid you farewell with the hopes to see you again in the future.
