Overview

Namobuddha Panauti Hiking is a brilliant combination of two of the most popular landmarks around the Kathmandu Valley. Namobuddha is an important religious site for Buddhist pilgrims and the beautiful village of Panauti provides a great cultural introduction to the Newar community. Along the trip, you will come across the impeccable artistic design of the Namobuddha stupa and enjoy the sights of the faraway Himalayas. The glorious Panauti village offers an introduction to the ancient history and cultural background of Kathmandu itself.

You will first start your trip with a drive to Dhulikhel from Kathmandu. Firstly, you will explore the beautiful town of Dhulikhel filled with stupas, famous parks, and the beautiful view of mountains that. Then, you will resume your trip and take a short drive to Namobuddha. The main attraction of the hike is the monastery of Namo Buddha named Tashi Yangtse Monastery which is one of the three biggest religious sites for Buddhists around Kathmandu. Filled with traditional art and craft styles, the stupa of Namobuddha is a peek into the life of followers of Buddhism in Nepal. Decorated by a beautiful golden roof, the structure is one of the national treasures of Nepal. As you hike your way downwards towards Panauti, you can enjoy the geographical diversity of central Nepal. Another major attraction is the beautiful valley of Panauti which is an important religious place for Hindu, which is your final destination of the hike. It is mainly popular for the Makar Mela (Makar fair) that takes place once every 12 years. The small valley will give you an insight into the traditional lifestyle of the Newar people. Prayer flags with Buddhist hymns are scattered along the path and the path itself is short and easy. A short drive from Panauti will bring you back to Kathmandu.

Or we can drive for another half an hour and stay in one of the lodges near Namobuddha. You can explore the monastery of Namo Buddha and take a look at the beautiful architecture and statues of Buddha.
