The hiking trail of Nagarjun is one of the most popular hiking trails in Kathmandu. Located just 20 minutes or so away from Kathmandu, the trail offers an amazing change of pace from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Nagarjun Hike provides travelers a sense of peace as the trails lead through forests and stone steps. Be it serene Buddha Stupas, ancient caves that carry untold stories, or heartwarming view of beautiful mountain ranges, hiking on the hills of Nagarjun provides an unforgettable experience.
The trip begins with a drive from Kathmandu to the Phulbari gate. The gate is a 20-minute drive away from the capital and is also the starting point for the hike. You will gradually ascend the hills of Nagarjun passing through the thick forests of Shivapuri National Park. As the trails are a part of the national park, they provide a home to a diverse array of flora and fauna. The thick forests of this region hide many caves like the cave of Nagarjuna. These caves are believed to have been meditation spots for gurus in ancient times. The peaceful environment of this place makes it a perfect place for meditation. This short and easy trek has also been known to be a pilgrimage site for Buddhist and Hindus. Phulchowki Hill also bears great significance in the origin and history of the Kathmandu Valley. It is said to be the vantage point from where Manjushree first looked down at a lake which we now know as Kathmandu Valley. The final destination of the trip is the Jamacho View Point from where we can still see the picturesque beauty of Kathmandu along with peaks like Mt. Jugal (6427m), Mt. Ganesh (7422m), and other mountains in the Langtang range. Similarly, the views of the Kathmandu Valley is also quite surreal from here. Later, you walk back to Phulbari Gate and drive back to Kathmandu.
We, at Miteri Nepal, assure you of a safe journey along with excellent services to complement the trips. We have an expert team of skilled manpower including guides, porters, and Sherpas. Moreover, you also have the option to modify the trip itinerary as per your preferences.
The trip begins as you leave the Kathmandu and drive north towards Phulbari Gate. After receiving the national park permit, you begin the hike. The hike from Phulbari to the Jamacho Hill takes approximately 3 to 4 hours. At the top of the hill, you can sightsee and explore the ancient caves and stupas. The hill station also is known to provide scenic views of the Kathmandu Valley along with the looming Himalayas in the horizon. After exploring the hilltop, you descend back to the Phulbari Gate. Then, you will drive back to Kathmandu in the evening.
