This is your opportunity to explore the culture of Nepal in a friendly and homely way. Ghalegaon is located in the Lamjung district of Nepal in the western region. Mostly inhabited by Gurung, the place is a cradle of exploring the traditional Gurung culture and lifestyle. In the lap of Mount Annapurna, Mount Lamjung, and Mount Fishtail, Ghalegaon offers the Homestay facilities with incredible hospitality and a range of quality cuisines. The Homestay trip provides an opportunity to explorers to witness the authentic lifestyle of Gurung community and their traditions. Along with that, the glamorous landscapes of the village and the mountains are compelling enough to seduce the eyes of every traveler.

The 7 days trip to Ghalegaon starts with your arrival in the unique city of Kathmandu, which is rich in its own culture and tradition. The 2nd day will be spent with the sightseeing and exploration of the culturally rich capital city of Nepal. You will visit the UNESCO world heritage sites and the places of historical importance in Kathmandu. Then after, you drive to Besisahar and then to Ghalegaon bypassing the western hills and rivers of Nepal. In Ghalegaon, the host family welcomes you for the Homestay where you are treated as a family member. You visit the Gurung settlements, museum, tea garden and monasteries of the village learning the culture and history of the place. The sunrise view from Ghalegaon view tower is mesmerizing with the view of western mountain ranges. A short visit to Ghan Pokhara details us about the prevailing culture and traditions there.  You end the trip after driving back to Kathmandu from Khudi village. The Gurung settlements of Ghalegaon, Ghan Pokhara, and Khudi amaze you with their great hospitality and culture. The months of March-June and September-November are most suitable for the trip.

Itinerary

Day 01

After your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, our representative from the company pick you up and transfer you to the hotel. You may take rest after checking in to the hotel or wander around the streets of Thamel and Basantapur. Later, we provide you a welcome dinner hosted by the company, where you can have a taste of delicious Nepali cuisines. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 02

Today, after having breakfast, we head for Kathmandu city tour. We visit the world heritage sites like Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath, Swayambhunath, Hindu pilgrimage Pashupatinath and other attractions of the city. You get to explore the history and culture of Nepal and the lifestyle of common Nepalese. We provide you quick description of the trip in the evening and you may do some shopping for the trek. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 03

After breakfast in Kathmandu, we drive to Besisahar located in the Lamjung district of Nepal. Upon arrival in Besisahar after driving for 6 hours, we take lunch and head for Ghale Gaun. Another 2 hours’ drive and we reach the beautiful Gurung village called Ghale Gaun. As a Homestay trip, we visit the home of the host family where they welcome us with garland and Tika as part of Nepalese tradition. We dine with the members of the host family and get to know about their way of life. Overnight in Ghale Gaun.

Day 04

Today, we get up early in the morning and walk to the view tower for a stunning sunrise view over the snow-capped mountains. We can see the panoramic vista of Mount Fishtail, Annapurna South, Lamjung Himal, and other mountain ranges. After breakfast with the family, we go for a trip around the village. We visit the Gurung museum of the village and get an insight into the ancient and traditional Gurung culture. The botanical tea garden and Uttar Kanya temple of the village are also highlighted beauties to explore. After a full day of strolling around the village and exploring the culture, we return to the Homestay and have our dinner with the family. Overnight at Ghale Gaun.

Day 05

After the breakfast, we descend downhill from Ghale Gaun through the beautiful houses of Gurung settlement. We pass lush green forests and walk continuously downhill before we reach Ghan Pokhara. The mesmerizing Gurung village of Ghan Pokhara is rich in its culture and tradition. We continue our journey further through the forests and take a total walk for 5 hours before reaching Khudi. We may observe a wide variety of birds and wildlife if luck favors. We stay at a Homestay in Khudi.

Day 06

Today, we drive back to Kathmandu by traveling for 6-7 hours on a private vehicle. We drive to Besisahar from Khudi and then continue our journey alongside the Trishuli River. The drive through hills and valleys connects us with the main highway at Dumre. After reaching Kathmandu, we first go to a hotel and rest our backpacks. You may spend the time relaxing with some chilled beer in the corners of Thamel as final celebrations of the trip. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 07

As per your estimated flight schedule, our company representative will drop you at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). You will go in a private Jeep to the airport through the streets of Kathmandu waving farewell to the people and mountains. We wish you good luck in your future endeavors and hope to see you again in Nepal for your next adventure.

Accommodation

Ghalegaun is well known for its community-run homestays rather than teahouses. Rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable, usually with twin beds or floor mattresses and shared bathrooms. Staying in a homestay offers a warm cultural experience, with friendly Gurung hospitality and a chance to learn about local traditions and lifestyle.

Meals

Visitors are served home-cooked local meals, typically including dal bhat (rice, lentils, vegetables), seasonal greens, pickles, and sometimes chicken or eggs. Breakfasts often include tea, chapati, bread, or local snacks. Meals are filling, fresh, and sufficient for short walks and village exploration.

 Permits

No trekking permits or TIMS card are required for Ghalegaun, as it lies outside restricted trekking regions and national parks. A valid ID (passport or government ID) is sufficient.

 Health and Safety

Ghalegaun is located at around 2,100 meters, so altitude sickness is very unlikely. Visitors should still:

  • Stay hydrated
  • Walk at a comfortable pace
  • Wear sun protection

Basic medical facilities are limited, so carrying personal medicines and a small first-aid kit is recommended.
