From Kathmandu, you fly to Nepalgunj and onward to Simikot, before a breathtaking helicopter ride over the Himalayas to Hilsa, near the Nepal-Tibet border. A short drive brings you to Taklakot, where high-altitude acclimatization prepares your body for the spiritual journey ahead.

The journey continues to Darchen, the base camp of Mount Kailash, from where the revered Parikrama (circumambulation) begins along trails walked by devotees for centuries. Crossing the Dolma La Pass at 5,600 meters offers both a physical challenge and a profoundly spiritual experience, descending towards Zuthulphuk with panoramic views of Kailash and surrounding peaks.
The return journey retraces your path via Darchen and Taklakot, culminating with a helicopter flight back to Simikot, then onward to Nepalgunj and Kathmandu. Throughout, Miteri Nepal provides experienced guides, Sherpa support, and carefully chosen accommodations, ensuring a seamless blend of adventure, spirituality, and Himalayan beauty.

During the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, accommodation varies by location. In Kathmandu and Nepalgunj, pilgrims stay in 5-star hotels with twin-sharing rooms, attached bathrooms, and modern amenities. In the Tibet and Kailash region, lodging is simpler but clean and safe, ranging from guesthouses to basic hotels with twin or dormitory-style rooms, especially near Lake Manasarovar, Darchen, Diraphuk, and Zuthulphuk. In Simikot and Hilsa, guesthouses provide basic beds, blankets, and shared facilities, offering a warm place to rest after long days of travel or trekking.
All meals during the Yatra are vegetarian, fresh, and energy-rich to support high-altitude trekking and spiritual activities. Typical meals include rice, lentils, vegetables, noodles, soups, momos, and bread. Food options are more varied at lower altitudes such as Kathmandu and Nepalgunj, while meals at higher altitudes are simpler but nutritious. Snacks and mineral water are provided throughout the journey to help pilgrims stay hydrated.
Pilgrims are required to have a Tibet group visa, along with entry and border permits for crossing at Hilsa/Taklakot. Additional permits and fees for restricted areas, such as the Humla region, are usually arranged by the tour operator, ensuring legal and safe access to the sacred Mount Kailash region.
The Yatra reaches altitudes of up to 5,600 meters at Dolma La Pass, so altitude sickness is a concern. Acclimatization days, light activity, proper hydration, and following guides’ instructions are critical for a safe journey. Rapid weather changes, strong winds, and freezing temperatures are possible at high passes, so layered clothing, sun protection, and trekking poles are recommended. Pilgrims should keep daypacks light, helicopter luggage under 10 kg, and have personal first aid and medications readily available. Respect for local culture and sacred sites is essential, and any symptoms of altitude sickness, such as headache, nausea, or breathlessness, should be reported immediately to guides.
